What non-classical, stringed instrument is most closely related to the cello?

I was wondering what stringed instrument (that isn’t classical- i.e. double bass, viola, violin, and cello) is most closely related to the cello. I seemed to think that it was an electric bass, but the people I was talking to said that it was a guitar. Does anyone have any incite? I really want to know.

It would probably be an instrument like the bowed dulcimer (The appalachian one) or the bowed psaltery.

The dulcimer is a plucked instrument, but it can be played like a bow. It has three strings, but its fretboard looks a bit like a cello’s. Also, it is of moderate size.

The bowed psaltery does not look like a cello at all, but instead, sounds a bit like one.
