What are the wooden items in the side pocket of this xylophone?

Okay, I was showing my mom a picture of a smaller xylophone, and i noticed those things in the side pocket where the mallets usually go. What are they? I play the xylophone in school every day, but haven’t seen those….Thanks! =)

They look like extra blocks – probably at different pitches so that you can play using different scales and tonalities just by swapping the blocks.
